Assignment Overview

The culminating activity for this course will be a curricular unit, course, or seminar that demonstrates your understanding of UDL principles. We will scaffold this project by breaking it into chunks that will be submitted at the end of each week.

Week 1 Focus: This first week you will provide an overview of the project you plan to develop. Consider this assignment as a brainstorming activity that will help you make the best use of this project for your own professional needs while also demonstrating your understanding of UDL.

Important Note: It is perfectly acceptable for this project to be a revision of an existing course, unit, or seminar. This can be an opportunity to improve something you already need and use.

Assignment Requirements

Submit a brief report that provides the following information about your proposed project:

  • Title: Provide a clear, descriptive title for your proposed unit, course, or seminar.
  • Description of the unit, course, or seminar: Include the main learning objectives, key topics, and overall scope.
  • Describe the target audience: Consider factors such as age, educational background, experience level, potential barriers to learning, and specific needs.
  • What is the current status for the activity? New, existing, needs improvement etc.
    • Consider using your emerging understanding of the three areas of UDL concerns (engagement, representation, and action/expression).
  • If this is a revision, include any existing documentation.
  • How do you envision the project progressing during this course?
  • What are the expected products?

Important Reminders

  • This is a draft: There will be plenty of opportunities to adjust as the course develops and as you become more familiar with UDL principles and tools.
  • Professional relevance: Choose a project that will benefit your current or future professional practice.
  • Flexibility: Your initial plan can evolve as you learn more about UDL throughout the course.
  • Quality over quantity: Focus on thoughtful, well-considered responses rather than lengthy descriptions.
